My name is Alonso. I am 17 years old and I am Colombian. I live in Boston with my family because my father got a new job. I knew Sean in my spanish class. At the moment, we have good friends. We get on well and we have a great time in class. We like learning of different cultures in latin america and the USA.
The problems started when Sean and and I started going out with a group of his friends after class. All his friends were american. I think that nobody is interested is chatting with me, and I wasn’t interested in talking with them about baseball and other things. When I go to Sean's house to eat and bring Colombian food to share, his family looks at me with distrust. When I try to talk to them in English, I make mistakes and I am ashamed. Sometimes I think I shouldn't try to make friends with American students like Sean, but we get along very well at school. We only have problems outside of school. What can I do to feel less nervous about other American people outside of school?
