Bob and Marie like to go to a good steakhouse. Dinners are $14 to $16 dollars with soup or salad. A beverage is $1.25. Dessert is $4.25. If one dinner is $14, the other is $16 and each diner has a beverage and dessert, what will the cost be if a 7% tax is charged and a 15% tip on the pre-tax amount is left?

Let's find the total cost before the tax and tip.

14+16+2*1.25+2*4.25 = $41

The tip is added before the tax so let's calculate it first.

1.15 * 41 = $47.15

Now add the 7% tax.

1.07 * 47.15 = $50.45

Answer:

$ 50.02

Explanation:

Given,

The cost of dinners are $ 14 and $ 16,

So, the original cost of dinner = 14 + 16 = $ 30,

Now, beverage costs $1.25 each and Dessert costs $4.25 each,

Thus, the total cost of beverage and dessert for a person = $1.25 + $4.25 = $ 5.5,

∴ the total cost beverage and dessert for 2 persons = 2 × 5.5 = $ 11,

Hence, the total cost of dinner including beverage and dessert = 30 + 11 = $ 41,

Now, there is 15% tip on the pre-tax amount is left,

I.e. the amount of tip = 15% of 41 =
(15* 41)/(100) = $6.15,

Also, there is a tax of 7%,

I.e. the amount of tax = 7% of 41 =
(7* 41)/(100) = $ 2.87

Therefore, the total cost of the dinner = total cost of dinner including beverage and dessert + tip + tax

= 41 + 6.15 + 2.87

= $ 50.02
