Glorious revolution also called the bloodless revolution that involved the events of 1688-89 that resulted in the deposition of James II and the accession of William III and Mary II to the English throne. Its major importance was to destroy any chance that England would have an absolute monarchy like that of France. Instead it ensured that England would have a constitutional monarchy in which parliament had the majority of power. The significant effect on America was to set a precedent for overthrowing a king.
