Step-By-Step-Explanation: A truck and a car were traveling in opposite directions

CAR: 19 miles per hour faster than the truck.

TRUCK: is x miles per hour

AVERAGE SPEED OF CAR: (x + 19) miles per hour

DISTANCE TRAVELED TRUCK AFTER: 8 hours = 8x miles

DISTANCE TRAVELED CAR AFTER: 8 hours, y = 8(x + 19) mile

8x + 8(x + 19) = 1448

8x + 8x + 152 = 1448

16x + 152 = 1448

Subtract 152 on BOTH SIDES

16x + 152 – 152 = 1448 – 152

16x = 1296

x = 81 miles per hour (AVERAGE SPEED TRUCK)

x + 19

= 81 + 19

= 100 miles per hour

Answer: The truck traveled at 81 mph. The car traveled at 100 mph

Given,

A car and a truck were traveling in opposite directions.

The car traveled 19 miles per hour faster than the truck.

If the average speed of the truck is x miles per hour

The average speed of the car is (x + 19) miles per hour

Distance traveled by truck after 8 hours = 8x miles

Distance traveled by car after 8 hours, y = 8(x + 19) miles

At the end of 8 hours they were 1448 miles apart.

8x + 8(x + 19) = 1448

8x + 8x + 152 = 1448

16x + 152 = 1448

Subtract 152 from both sides of the equation

16x + 152 – 152 = 1448 – 152

16x = 1296

x = 81 miles per hour (Average speed of the truck)

Average speed of the car = x + 19

= 81 + 19

= 100 miles per hour

Conclusively:

The average speed of the truck is 81 miles per hour

The average speed of the car is 100 miles per hour
