First you need a common denominator
multiply 1/2 by 3
3 * 1 = 3 and 2*3 = 6
so, you now need to know what 3/6 + 4/6 =
so, when adding fractions, you must never add the bottom, only the top
3 + 4 = 7
so 3/6 + 4/6 = 7/6 or 1 and 1/6
Hope I helped!

first get a common denominator

1/2 + 4/6

1/2(3/3) = 3/6

3/6 + 4/6

Then add the two together

3/6 + 4/6 = 7/6

7/6 is then equal to 1 1/6

1 1/6 is your answer

hope this helps
