I think it is because Mckinley wanted to keep Cuba safe because of business and economic development. The US had been investing a huge amount before the war. With the ongoing war between Spain and Cuba, there is a possibility that some investments would eventually pull out because it was no longer safe to do business in that region. So Mckinley wage war against Spain if they don't pull away their troops in Cuba

Step-by-step explanation:

William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was born in Niles, Ohio on January 29, 1843. He served as a private during the Civil War and identified himself in action getting the rank of major in 1865. He worked in Congress from 1876 to 1890 and became a strong follower of guarding tariffs. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, McKinley joined in the Union Army, he ultimately earned the rank of brevet major of volunteers.
