Jones covered a distance of 50 miles on his first trip. On a later trip he traveled 300 miles while going three times as fast. His new time compared with the old time was:

Answer: (b) twice as much

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to apply the speed formula for each case:

Speed = distance /time

For time:

Time = distance / speed

First trip = 50/x

Where x is the speed of Jones covering that distance.

Last trip =300/ 3x = 100/x

If we compare both times, we can see clearly that the new time compared with the old time was twice as much.

Feel free to ask for more if needed or if you did not understand something.
