All of these sports, cheerleading included, require the athletes to be in shape, precise, talented and well-rehearsed. Physical exertion in cheerleading comes into play mostly in stunting.

Cheerleading meets ALL of the athletic specifications. But, because cheerleading's primary purpose is to support high school and college athletic teams.
In other words, cheerleading is more than a sport.
