$8484 - $4040 = $4444 is left over
$4444 / $0.22 = 20200
He can drive no more tan 20200 miles.

Hope this helped.

Let us say he can drive x miles.

Amount Zachary can spend = $84

Rent of car = $40 per day + fixed $0.22 per mile

Rent of car = 40 +0.22x

Now let us make an inequality for the given situation.

Amount Zachary have ≥Rent of car

84\geq 40+0.22x

Now let us solve this inequality to find maximum number of miles that he can drive the car.

84-40\geq 0.22x

44\geq 0.22x

dividing both sides by 0.22

x≤200

So Zachary can drive maximum 200 miles.
