x= number of reserved seats
(1787-x) = number of general admission seats

The cost per reserved seat is $4 each, so we need to multiply 4*x (the price per reserved seat by the number of reserved seats)

The cost per general admission seat is $3 each, so we need to multiply
3*(1787-x)

We need to add the 4x + 3(1787-x) and it will equal the total $ sales.

4x + 3(1787-x) = $5792
Use the distributive property to multiply 3 by (1787-x)
4x + (3*1787) - (3*x) = 5792
4x + 5361 - 3x = 5792
x + 5361 = 5792
Subtract 5361 from both sides
x= 431 number of reserved seats

Substitute the x answer to find the number of general admission seats
1787-x = 1356 number of general admission seats

Hope this helped! :)
