Answer: C) Tranquil

Explanation: In his poem "Chicago", Carl Sandburg's depiction of the city of Chicago is all except tranquil. In this poem, Sandburg says that Chicago is loud, busy and full of action. Therefore the city is all but tranquil or calm. He reacts to the people who call the city brutal and cruel. He answers that although there are prostitution and crime, the city is alive and growing with working people who build and rebuild.
