Why is it significant that many Jim Crow laws reference gender as well as race

The aim of Jim Crow laws were racial and gender segregation between white and blacks. Segregation could be seen in public schools, public places, and public transportation, as well as in public restrooms and restaurants. The legal principle or motto was "separate, but equal", however the aim was to revive 1865 and 1866 Black Codes in order to restrict the civil rights and liberties of African Americans.

I think this is because of the perception that African Americans are considered "dim-witted" by many White Americans during their time. Black men have limited rights because of the segregation but for many black women they dont have the same rights with their male counterparts. Although many black women have been well educated during this era but they were not given the chance to be heard because of their race and their gender
