Cognitive scientists consider listening to be a process of selection, organization and integration. People consciously or unconsciously select and retain the information they want to hear, assume they are hearing and retain. Then what is heard is organized in our head to what we accept or believe or reject and don't think is true

Selection, refers to the attention that directed to a certain communicator in order to obtain a certain information

Organization, refers to the process of deciphering the information to understand the full context of the message

Integration, refers to keeping the information inside our memory storage.
