eg. d stands for the number of dimes, n stands for the number of nickels
a dime worth 10 cents, 1 nickel worth 5 cents

The equation for "There are 10 coins in a jar" is
d + n = 10

The equation for "The coins are worth a total of 70 cents" is
10d + 5n = 70
