Answer:

She needs 161.5 in² of material.

Explanation:

A kite is a deltoid.

The formula of an area of a deltoid:

A=(d_1\cdot d_2)/(2)

d₁, d₂ - diagonals

We have:

d_1=8.5in+8.5in=17in\\\\d_2=6in+13in=19in

Substitute:

A=((17)(19))/(2)=(323)/(2)=161.5\ in^2

Area of a triangle = 1/2 Bh

so 6 x 8.5 = 51 and since there is 2 triangles we don't need to divide

Then you have the larger ones so you multiply 8.5 x 13 and get 110.5

so now all you have to do is add 51 + 110.5 which is 161.5 inches<-------
