Why did many african americans chose to be sharecroppers?

Sharecropping was a path for exceptionally African Americans to gain a living from a farm owned by another person. The landowner gives land , lodging, instruments and seed, and maybe a donkey, and a nearby trader gives nourishment and supplies to the farm using a loan. At gather time, the tenant farmer gets his own share of the produce which is usually 1/3 of the produce harvested, while the land owner keeps the rest
