2r + b = 8.40 3r + b = 9.35 You order 2 refills and 1 egg breakfast, costing a total of $8.40. So your equation becomes: 2r + b = 8.40 Your friend ordered 3 refills and 1 egg breakfast, costing 9.35. So his equation is 3r + b = 9.35

me: 2r+b=8.40⇒b=8.40-2r
friend: 3r+b=9.35
b=8.40-2r
3r+8.40-2r=9.35
b=8.40-2r
r=9.35-8.40⇒r=0.95
b=8.40-2*0.95⇒b=$6.50
r=$0.95
