The term ''goth'' arised in the Germanic tribes that invaded Rome in the 5th and 6th century. The Visigoths and Ostrogoths were two of the most famous tribes that hindered the spread of the Roman Empire. They invaded their empire, and as a result, the Romans associated the term ''goth'' with someone who was uncivilized and barbaric. Later on, the term "goth" was used in the same context in the early 1800s to refer to the Gothic art movement.
