Density of some metals

Aluminum - 2.75 g mL
Magnesium - 1.74 g mL
Nickel - 8.80 g mL
Tin - 7.28 g mL

Roni picks up a sample of a silver, cylindrical-shaped piece of an unknown metal and is told by her teacher to find the identity of it. She decides to measure its mass by using an analytical balance. The mass is found to be 42.5g. She then puts the metal in a graduated cylinder with exactly 50 mL of water in it. The water rises to 55.8 mL. The formula for density is D = m v . Based on the table, determine the identity of the unknown metal.

A) Aluminum
B) Magnesium
C) Nickel
D) Tin

D) Tin

D=m/v
42.5/55.8
=0.76 -> tin

that's tin
d = m/v
42.5/ 5.8
which comes around 7.3 g/ml and matches with the density of the tin metal
