A child weighs 11 kilograms. the health care provider orders a drug as follows: 0.2 mg/kg intravenously. what dose should the nurse administer?

For instance, the 11-kilogram child is having seizures. The physician orders Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg intravenously. To compute for the actual dose, we use the formula mg/kg/dose (in some instances, it is mg/kg/day).

The equation is:

(0.2mg)/(kg) x 11kg = 2.2 mg

22 mg of Midazolam should be given. In reality, there should also be the conversion from solid units (mg, g) to liquid (mL) using a specific concentration because intravenous drugs are usually in liquid form.
