As a fraction, you can write 24xy ÷ 6y as


(24xy)/(6y)

We can cancel the y's here, leaving us with
(24x)/(6).

6 goes 24 4 times, so we can reduce our fraction down to


(24x)/(6) =4x

Plugging in -2 for x, we get 4(-2) = -8
