we calculate y first, since both given equation has the same x we can minus the bottom one with the top one

so 4x + 6y =20

- 4x + 3y =8

so 3y = 20-8

= 12

1y= 12/3

y= 4

so for x now since we know the y, we can solve easily,

4x + 3y = 8

4x + 3(4) = 8

4x + 12 = 8

4x = 8-12

4x = -4

x = -4/4

x = -1
