Americans had started to claim territory that Native American tribes were living in. Two of the reasons to why this was done was because of Manifest Destiny and the gold that was being discovered. These two things tie into one another. Americans were lead to believe that all the territory in the U.S. belonged to the them and it was their destiny to claim it and the gold was located in much of this uncharted territory, especially in the West. Americans felt the gold belonged to them just like the land and pushed out the Native Americans for it. The tribes were unhappy with the lack of help from the U.S. government and their embrace of both factors.
