Solve for z:
z/2 + 1 = 9
Put each term in z/2 + 1 over the common denominator 2: z/2 + 1 = z/2 + 2/2:
z/2 + 2/2 = 9
z/2 + 2/2 = (z + 2)/2:
(z + 2)/2 = 9
Multiply both sides of (z + 2)/2 = 9 by 2:
(2 (z + 2))/2 = 2×9
(2 (z + 2))/2 = 2/2×(z + 2) = z + 2:
z + 2 = 2×9
2×9 = 18:
z + 2 = 18
Subtract 2 from both sides:
z + (2 - 2) = 18 - 2
2 - 2 = 0:
z = 18 - 2
18 - 2 = 16:
Answer: z = 16
