So solve for x? using the quadratic formula.
a = 2, b = 4, c = -5
x = (-b +/-
)/2a
= (-4 +/-
)/2(2)
= (-4 +/-
)/4
= (-4 +/- 2
)/4
= (-4 +/- 2
)/4
= -1 +/-
/2
