So solve for x? using the quadratic formula.
a = 2, b = 4, c = -5

x = (-b +/-
\sqrt{b^(2)-4ac })/2a
= (-4 +/-
√(16-4(2)(-5)))/2(2)
= (-4 +/-
√(16+40))/4
= (-4 +/- 2
√(14))/4
= (-4 +/- 2
√(14))/4
= -1 +/-
√(14)/2
