A compound is a substance that contains one or more elements that are chemically compound. An acid is a substance which when reacted with a base forms salt and water as the only products. It is a substance that can donate a H+ ( a proton) to another. Therefore, a compound will be called an acid if it contains a replaceable H atom in its formula.
