Why did the British want to maintain control over Arab lands after World War 1

There are basically two reasons for this:
1. The land in Arab possess a lot of oil reserves which was a really hot commodity at that time.
2. By controlling the land in Arab, the British also gained a very strategic region for all trades that happen around the Mediterranean region.
