If a client is being treated for diverticulosis, the following points should be included by the nurse in the client's teaching plan:

- Do not suppress the urge to defecate.

- Avoid constipation

- Drink at least 8 to 10 large glasses (Approximately 2 Liters) of fluid every day.

- Include foods that are soft but have increased fiber in your daily diet

- Avoid the use of laxatives or enemas except when recommended by the physician.

- Exercise regularly if the current lifestyle is somewhat inactive.
