The main purpose of the Dutch East India company, often referred to as Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie or VOC in when speaking Dutch, was to trade with, explore and colonize areas during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Dutch East India Company was created in 1602 and lasted nearly two centuries when it was ended in 1800.
