N "Mami and Papi," why does the author use sensory detail in her descriptions of her mother?

Because She wants to show how her memories and impressions of her mother are interwoven with her memories of the story's setting.
In order to do this, she relied on the sensory detail to capture every single things that her mother does according to her point of view so the readers could experience what she felt.
