JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH:

Why did they agree to not tell the Italians where they came from? They would be thrown back in the volcano. They didn’t want to scare the Italians. The Italians would have thought they were demons. They knew that the whole story was so fantastic no one would believe it right away.

Answer:

C. The Italians would have thought they were demons.

Step-by-step explanation:

In Journey to the Center of the Earth, chapter 43, it says:

"To say how we had reached the island would scarcely have been prudent. The superstitious character of the Italians would have been at work, and we should have been called demons vomited from the infernal regions."

The italians are superstitious and believe in demons. If they heard that Harry, Hans, and the Professor had come out of a volcano... they would be quick to accuse.

Hope this helps you!! :)
