Multiply the top numbers by -2. That’ll give you:
-2x - 6y = 24
2x - y = -3
That’ll end up with:
-7y = 21
And you must get y by itself. So you divide -7y by -7 and that means you need to divide 21 by -7 as well. So that means:
y = -3
Now you need to plug it into one of those equations to find the answer for x
Let’s do 2x - y = -3
2x + 3 = -3
Since subtracting negatives is the same as adding a positive we used a plus sign.
Get 2x by itself
2x = -6
x = -3
(-3, -3)
