The chromosomes in the sex cells would be half the chromosomes in the body cells; so since each body cell has 40 chromosomes and half of that is 20, there's your answer. It's B. 20

Answer:

Option B

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose if number of chromosomes is represented by "n"

Then, the total number of chromosomes in a haploid cell is "n"

and the number of chromosomes in a diploid cell is two times the number of chromosomes in haploid cell i.e "2n"

Normal body cells are diploid therefore they have 2n chromosomes

Here 2n is equal to 40 . Therefore, n will be equal to 20

Sex cells are haploid and hence they will have n number of chromosomes i.e 20

hence, option B is correct
