Lech Walesa co-founded Solidarnosc and was quite active in trade unions as well. He helped pave the way for the end of communism and gained political power as the President of Poland, prior to the fall of the USSR in 1991.

Lech Walesa is a Polish retired politician and labour activist. He co-founded and headed Solidarity (Solidarność), the Soviet bloc's first independent trade union. He also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983, and held the presidency of Poland from 1990 to 1995.
