Add both amounts together but both multiplied by an unknown value, x.
3x+5x=600
8x=600
8x/8=600/8
x=75
3(75)=225
225 boys
5(75)=375
375 girls

225 boys and 375 girls

There are 600 students in a school. The ratio of boys to girls is 3:5. How many boys and how many girls are there?
