Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants use energy from the sun to make their own food. It involves two stages which are photolysis where energy from the sun is used to break water molecules to produce hydrogen ions and oxygen molecules, then the carbon iv oxide fixation which involves combination of carbon iv oxides and hydrogen ions to yield simple sugars (glucose). Glucose and oxygen are the major products formed during photosynthesis such that for every molecule of glucose formed six molecules of oxygen are produced as a by product. In addition, from the law of conservation of energy the total mass of glucose and oxygen is equivalent to the mass of the reactants.
