Queen Liliuokalani of the Kingdom of Hawaii was forced to abdicate her throne illegally by rich plantation owners with the help of their private militia. Liliuokalani abdicated because she did not want any of her Hawaiian people to be harmed or killed in the result of her decision. She was also illegally imprisoned in her own bedroom in her own palace. Some may also say that Liliuokalani also was forced to abdicate because the American government was planning on annexing the Hawaiian Islands, as they already held Pearl Harbor (Liliuokalani’s brother, Kalakaua signed it over to America in exchange for protection and aid).
