What caused the drop in salmon populations in the klamath river?

The Klamath river was dammed for electricity, then farmers settled the land around the river and

diverted water for their irrigation. The conflict over Salmon and water in the Klamath River was

resolved, because the hydroelectric company agreed to remove the dam and the farmers had to agreed

to conserve water by planting less water thirsty crops and updating their irrigation technology.
