Intraosseous infusion is the process of injecting into the bone marrow fluids and medications. One indication of this is a condition needing high volume fluid infusion such as those experiencing hypovolemic shock. It is suggested for children aged 6 years or younger especially if experiencing cardiac arrest. It is then most appropriate for a 2 year old child with a ruptured spleen and hypovolemia.
