Chinese view on westerners is not positive. In Chinese history, the 18th century is considered the ‘Century of Humiliation’ as the country was attacked, bullied, and divided, by Russia, Britain, France, Germany, and Japan. It all started in the Opium Wars in which the British warred and defeated China because the latter wanted to stop the British from trading opium in the country. The humiliation led to rise of nationalist movements to unite China and expel foreigners.
