Answer:

Both fables center on the theme of selfishness and what can happen to someone who only thinks about themselves.

Step-by-step explanation:

The Fisherman and his Wife centers around a greedy wife who asks for more and more from the fish, even though the fisherman was happy with what they had to begin with. The fish eventually gets tired of them asking for more.

Similarly, The Horse and Loaded Donkey is about a horse who refuses to help the donkey share the load, even when it asks for help. In the end the horse is forced to carry the full load as well as the donkey's corpse when it dies.

Both stories center on the theme of selfishness and not being able to see the other, only thinking about oneself which in the end becomes the demise of the characters in both stories:

  • The fisherman and his wife end up with nothing and even more unhappy after the fish gets tired.
  • The horse ends up with an even heavier load as well as the guilt from letting the donkey die.
