2(-2y - 8) - 3y = 5
-4y - 16 -3y = 5
-7y = 5 + 16
-7y = 21
y = -21/7
y = -3
Substituting y in ( 2 ),
x= -2(-3) - 8
x = 6 - 8
x = -2

Hence: x = -2 and y = -3
