2x - 3y = 5 ————( 1 )
x = -2y - 8 ————( 2 )
substituting ( 2 ) in ( 1 ),
2(-2y - 8) - 3y = 5
-4y - 16 -3y = 5
-7y = 5 + 16
-7y = 21
y = -21/7
y = -3
Substituting y in ( 2 ),
x= -2(-3) - 8
x = 6 - 8
x = -2

Hence: x = -2 and y = -3

The first equation can be written as:
2x = 5 + 3y

Substituting the second equation into the first equation and rearranging:
-4y - 16 = 5 + 3y
-21 = 7y
y = -3

Substituting y = -3 into the second equation:
x = -2(-3) - 8
x = -2
