I cannot be certain what your equation is, so
if you have
(x)/(5-7) =-8 , then x= -8 times -2, or 16.
if you have
(x)/(5) -7 = -8 , then
(x)/(5) = -1 , so x=-5

to get X by itself you first bring -7 over and get X/5=-1 then multiply both sides by 5 to get X=-5
