PLEASE HELP ME!! :))

Oceanside Bike Rental Shop charges 17 dollars plus 6 dollars an hour for renting a bike. Mike paid 71 dollars to rent a bike. How many hours, , did he pay to have the bike checked out? Write an equation and solve for . Must show your work to receive full credit.

So 17 +6 = 23, so lets do 71 divided by 23 to get 3.08.... (let's round the number to 3) So we have 3 hours that the bike was checked out for.


The Equation could be 17+6 divided by 71(If you solve for it then it would look like this 17+6=23 divided by 71= 3 hours

rental fee = fixed amount + variable amount

The fixed amount is the $17 fixed charge.
The variable amount is the hourly amount.
Let c = the cost (the total rental fee)
Let h = number of hours.
The the hourly fee is 6h

r = 17 + 6h

He paid $71, so r = $71

71 = 17 + 6h

17 + 6h = 71

6h = 54

h = 9

Answer: He rented the bike for 9 hours.
