Math problems→x
Science problems→y
x+y=42
x=10+y
10+y+y=42⇒2y=32⇒y=32/2⇒y=16
x=10+y
y=16
x=10+16⇒x=26
I have 26 math problems and 16 science problems.

X= math problems y= science problems x +y =42 x= y+10 Substitute: (y+10) + y =42 Combine y: 2y +10=42 Solve for y: y= 16 There are 16 science questions and 26 math questions
