False. Alabama is in the South, so his arguments cannot be discounted if they are based on factual information. What should be focused on are his arguments as to why the war was not actually based on or motivated by settling the slavery issue once and for all for the U.S. It also depends on what Noland considered to be the primary motivating factors. I think most historians would disagree. Everything related to the U.S. Civil War is principally connected to slavery issues and emancipation or freedom of the slaves. The conflicting powers on both sides could no longer find temporary solutions to a permanent problem that undermined the fundamentals of the U.S. Constitution, namely freedom.
