The client's electronic medical chart will most likely state the condition called Paget's disease of bone. It is a disease involving problems with the remodelling of some bones. Patients with this disease have elevated serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and urinary hydroxyproline levels. ALP is a byproduct of osteoblast activity (osteoblasts are the cells that secrete new bone), while hydroxyproline plays a role in collagen stability. These two markers could indicate the increased osteoblastic activity that is present in this disease.
