How can you find a unit rate when given a rate?

Example:

Joe walks 4 3/5 mile in 122 minutes. What is his unit rate? To obtain this, divide 4 3/5 by 122 minutes:

5 23 1 23 mi
----------- = ----- * -------------- = ------- ------- = 0.135 mile/min
122 min 5 122 min 170 min
----------
1 = 714.4 ft/min

Note how the unit rate involves "1 min" as part of the overall unit of measurement.
