How did technology play a role in opening Southeast Asia and the Pacific to foreign influence?

Once technnology changed and developed it allowed for extraofdinary seaborne expansion which led to many people who spoke Proto-Austronesian languages and their ecendants who were speakers of Austronesian, also known as Malayo-Polynesian language. This led to a society preference for smaller groups in comparison to large tribes or villages. The second was the development of bronze and iron objects. This led to farming tools as well as ornaments.
