The answer is B. a lack of members. Unlike European countries, where decreasing death rates occurred gradually, countries in developing regions experienced a dramatic drop in death rates in the '50s as a result of exportation of medical technology and public health policies from the developed world. Developing countries did not see a corresponding reduction in birth rates Instead, the population explosion, which began in the '50s, is attributed to high rates of natural increase in the developing world.

I believe here are the challenges:
a) competition grom countries with larger economies (the strongest competitor come from United States, China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea)
c) an aging population, ( In recent years they experienced about 77% increase in elderly population)
d) members with weak economies (Most notably is Greece which is really close to bankruptcy)
